Forest School and OPAL
Forest school is a child-centred learning process, providing learner inspired, hands-on experiences in the natural environment. It’s a creative experience for the child and allows them to problem-solve and learn to manage risks whilst increasing confidence and self-esteem.
Forest School encourages children to explore the natural environment and learn in it.
At Northwood Community Primary School all children have the opportunity to take part in Forest School Sessions. This is meticulously planned for by Mr Murray our Outdoor Play and Learning Lead. As you will see from the overview attached below children will take part in a range of themed sessions. Each session is planned so knowledge and skills are built on session by session (please see Forest School Progression Map attached below).
Mr Murray also takes outdoor intervention sessions to support social and emotional needs of targeted children. If you feel your child needs an intervention such as this please feel free to contact school via email.

All classes will access Forest School during the week and need to ensure they are dressed appropriately and have the correct kit with them on the day that they go to Forest School.
