SENSORY INTEGRATION
Staff in the DSP spend a lot of time supporting the sensory needs of the pupils in the DSP.
We do this in several ways:
SHINE THERAPY - a specialist OT comes in on a weekly basis to support the needs of whole classes and individual pupils. Shine therapy have helped us to re-design our environment and our OT works with parents to support needs at home.
SPECIALIST SENSORY ROOMS - we have a sensory light room and a soft play room in our DSP and children can access this as they need to and in a timetabled session. Children can be supported by an adult within this room or can access it independently as we have CCTV so we can watch the children inside the room with the door closed over. The door is never locked or held shut in any way and children choose to be alone in the room for a time or can choose to come out when they want to. For our youngest class, we have an adjacent room which serves as a pack away sensory space, which is set up to reflect the bespoke needs of the children at that time.
REBOUND THERAPY - 12 staff are trained to deliver rebound therapy across the DSP and we have our own purpose built trampoline in our small hall. The benefits of this therapy is well documented.
