Career Related Learning
Northwood Community Primary School recognises the important role that is played by primary schools in enabling children to have high aspirations about their future.
As a school, we recognise the importance of raising aspirations and improving life chances for all our pupils. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to fulfil their potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. To support this, we hold three whole-school career days each year, exposing children to a variety of jobs and industries. These experiences, alongside high-quality teaching and enrichment activities, inspire our pupils to aim high, dream big, and develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Our commitment is to empower every child to believe in themselves and their future.
Our career days are designed not only to broaden pupils' understanding of different professions but also to actively challenge gender stereotypes. We ensure that children see a diverse range of role models in various industries, helping them to understand that any career path is open to them, regardless of gender. Additionally, we are proud to include members of the public who are neurodivergent, showcasing the unique strengths and contributions they bring to the workforce. This helps our pupils appreciate the value of inclusivity and diversity in the world of work.
We deeply appreciate all the volunteers who generously give their time to enrich the lives of our children. Their involvement plays a vital role in inspiring our pupils to raise their aspirations and dream big. By sharing their experiences, knowledge, and passion, these volunteers help our children see the many possibilities that lie ahead, encouraging them to believe in themselves and their potential.

Why is career related learning important?
Career-related learning and raising aspirations are crucial in helping children understand the range of opportunities available to them in the future. By introducing pupils to different careers from an early age, we help them make connections between their learning and the real world, giving purpose to their education. This not only broadens their horizons but also fosters ambition, motivation, and self-belief. Encouraging children to explore a variety of career paths helps them build the confidence and skills they need to pursue their goals and succeed in life, no matter what path they choose.
